MGT 303 Managerial Decision Making (3 Credits)

This course focuses on how managers can make more rational judgments and decisions to give them a competitive edge in the business world. Its objectives are to develop an understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of managerial decision making, to identify settings in which weaknesses are likely to appear, and to learn to more effectively use decision-aiding techniques. The course draws on a variety of disciplines and will offer insights useful to students entering several fields - including management consulting, investment and finance, marketing, and general management.

This course examines decision-making activities in a variety of managerial and business decision settings, with an emphasis on how to improve one's ability to structure decisions, analyze tradeoffs, deal with risk and uncertainty, and make decisions in dynamic environments - i.e., environments that change in response to the decisions that you and others make. In dealing with each of these topics, we will address some of the new decision-making challenges brought about by the rapid development of information technology.

The following are acceptable topics for this course:
  • Dealing with information overload
  • Making high-velocity decisions in rapidly changing environments.
